Before we got to Stockholm we collected ideas for what to see, where to eat and where to go.

This way we had a rough overview on how to spend our days there. From the experience I got I would recommend to definitely always plan quite precisely your stay and the activities to do.

Also don’t forget to check the weather conditions, that way you will not freeze just like I did..

What to see:

  • Gamla Stan

The southern forecourt of the castle (Slottsbacken), with the view of the castle facade, Storkyrkan, the obelisk, the statue of Gustav III and down to the water surface of the Stockholm stream. The main square Stortorget with the colourful gabled houses and the Nobel Museum in the former stock exchange building you can get to see in Gamla Stan as well. Which is a really nice spot for pictures. The Tyska kyrka with the highest church tower in the old town and its two-aisled interior with comparatively splendid furnishings for a Scandinavian church is located in Gamla Stan as well.

  • Stortorget

Stortorget is the heart of Stockholm's old town. The attractive 17th century buildings are in earthy pastel shades and are arranged around a cobbled square.

  • Södermalm

The town hall and the hipster district Södermalm Visit the Stockholm City Hall on the island of Kungsholmen This building with the three crowns on top of the tower is one of the most famous silhouettes of the city.

The Catherine Quarter is a journey back in time to times long past. Not far from Mosebacke torg is Katarina Kyrka, the church that towers above the whole quarter and was once the site of the witch trials in Stockholm. Around the church, there are some narrow little cobblestone alleyways and old wooden houses. Worth seeing is Mikaels Gata with its pretty colourful houses, named after the Stockholm executioner Mikael Reissuer. From here you can also get to Fjällgatan, from where you have a wonderful view of Djurgården and the city centre.

We were walking around Götgatan, Södermalm's lifeline and pedestrian zone. Where you can go shopping or walking, they are many nice boutiques, nice bars and many cafés. Mainstream can hardly be found here.

  • Riddarholmen

Riddarholmen is a small island located right in the centre of Stockholm opposite the Stadshuset and Centralen central station. Riddarholmen is part of the old town Gamla Stan.

  • Östermalm

Östermalm is one of the central districts in Stockholm's city centre. Östermalm is one of the four central districts of Stockholm, along with Södermalm, Norrmalm and Kungsholmen. It is divided into the districts Östermalm, Hjorthagen, Ladugårdsgärdet, Djurgården and Norra Djurgården. Places to visit there: Marketplace Östermalmstorg Market hall Östermalms Saluhall

Lilla Ego

For some snacks and a coffee you will find enough cafes to sit in and relax.

Don’t forget to eat some waffles, they are amazing!! Sweden calories don’t count, got you.

Tip from me:

Relatively inexpensive Coffee-To-Go or cinnamon buns can be bought in one of the many 7-Eleven shops that are located throughout Stockholm. Here you can buy pastries for 15 to 25 SEK and coffee for 20 SEK.

People who love to eat, are always the best people! Fact.
