Blue Lagoon

Aktualisiert: 20. Mai 2020

The Blue Lagoon is a spa in Iceland that is open all year round with an average water temperature of 39°C all year round.

The warm sea water is rich in minerals (e.g. silica), which work wonders on the skin. The water in the Blue Lagoon renews itself completely every 48 hours. The Blue Lagoon is a large lake with the perfect temperature for swimming (average 39°C). It is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland and is only 15 minutes by car from Keflavík International Airport or about 30 minutes from the Icelandic capital Reykjavík. It is therefore ideal for your first stop after your arrival in Iceland, which is exactly what we have done.

After our arrival in Reykjavík we spent our evening in the city and the next morning we went to the blue lagoon. Since the Blue Lagoon is so popular, we had to book our visit to this spa in advance, this would be my tip which should not be forgotten as it can quickly be booked out. It was one of my best experiences in Iceland, it was breathtakingly beautiful and relaxing. We paid 90 euro for our entrance fee and were allowed to stay as long as we wanted. As we wanted to start our road trip on this day as well, we went to the spa for about 3.5h, which was totally sufficient. There are lockers in the spa where you can open and close them with the bracelet you get at the entrance of the spa. This allows you to lock up your bags and important things in the lockers and keep them safe. We had also included in our ticket a drink in the lagoon bar and the natural mask that is also distributed in the lagoon.

As this is unique and we don't have something like this in Germany, I would recommend everyone to visit the blue lagoon and relax when visiting Iceland. Maybe the price might be too high, but how often do you have the opportunity to relax in a warm lagoon and maybe enjoy the sunrise or sunset?
